Post #14:

OK, so now I’m going to try catch up by using speed typing:

Debarked plane in Venice, found restrooms
Went to luggage area…all arrived (Bingo! Cha Ching! Whooppee!)
Purchased Euro at bank before leaving
Found change machine on wall to get coins for luggage cart

Could be taken to taxi dock (we asked)
Looked for Vaporetto pass booth (not in the baggage area)
No passport check as we passed out into the ‘unsecure area’…odd?
A line-up of people waiting with signs…nobody wanted us

Looking for way to water taxi.
And looking for water pass booth,
A little bewildering…stay calm, we’re here.
Saw a taxi/tour stand amongst other booths… Asked price…90E…sold…got slip

Look for yellow sign at dock…pay driver.
Asked around and picked up pre-purchased vaporetto pass
Walked outside and followed signs to taxis…10 min walk?
Low 70’s, clear and breezy
Handed slip to man that approached us (same company? Who knows)
He took our slip of paper and called over a driver
…”come this way”, and we did.
There were LOTS of taxis…no problem.
VERY busy place. Lots of coming and going.
Driver chatted with other drivers as we walked
…indifferent to us, like cabbies at home
He did grab one bag, but we schlepped the rest…left cart on dock
Just a motorboat…could have held at least 10 people.
Did not have top open (rough water he said
…spray…others open though…bummer)
Follow the posts…like a ride at Disneyland…VERY busy

Left Video camera in bag…oh well.

Approached hotel through a small canal…
Hotel Foscari Palace, right on Grand Canal near Ca de Oro vaporetto stop
Just as imagined as we approached…
Bell man waiting (we’re really here)…taxi driver must have called
Hotel, first opinion; small, quaint, nice, clean, quiet (insideNext to taxi and gondola stand, very busy, and noisy (but in a good way)
Very nice young lady at desk (Divna)
Checked us in (had to provide passports)

She has been very friendly and helpful…

She’s also reading this blog so I had to say that…
NOT…she is nice.

Bell man showed us to our room and gave tour.

Gonzaga mini-suite…just as lovely as in the pictures (duh)
…boy did we SPLURGE, but it is worth every penny!
Two balconies, great views up, down, across the ‘Canal Gran’

Now to call Rich and Lynn and set plans for the evening.
